Great Value for the Price!
My wife and I spent three weeks at Studio Aurea in October. Traveled over 30 hours from Calgary, Alberta Canada on a whim. We could not have been happier with the experience.
The studio was perfect for the two of us. Located within a five minute walk of the Blue Bay public beach and a two minute walk to the ocean side beach via private access. Snorkeling in this area is amazing . The property is new, with great attention to detail, with very helpful staff onsite to assist with laundry, meals and advise. The studio has all the amenities required for a restful vacation. Kitchenette, spacious shower and large bed. By car, the London Mart grocery store is about 5 minutes away. The central market in Mahebourg is about 10 minutes away. If not renting a vehicle there are numerous taxi's in Blue Bay (about 50 rupees to Mahebourg. There are also regular buses departing the Blue Bay traffic circle. Travelling the island is easy, the main motorway is in excellent shape, well signed and patrolled.
The owner of the property, Regine was an amazing hostesses. She arranged for transport from the airport and purchased on our behalf some groceries, wine, beer and prepared a Mauritian curry for our first meal which made the first couple days hassle free. She also provided us with a home made chocolate cake which was delicious and most appreciated.
If available I would suggest asking Regine if you could rent the "small" house in the north at Cap Malheureux to break up your stay. We stayed two days in the north at the "small" house. Very beautiful house with two bedrooms and full kitchen. Quick walk to beach. I would highly recommend going for the day adventure with Captain Kevin to Flat Island for snorkeling and beach barbecue. We were lucky and saw some Humpback whales.
While in Blue Bay I would recommend renting a beach chair and umbrella from Alberto at the public beach. 400 rupees a day is well worth the price for total relaxation and peace of mind. Alberto keeps a sharp eye out for your belongings. There are also three excellent local restaurants for those disinclined to cook. Chez Marise, right next door has great Mauritian fare and will do take out so you can eat in the studio.
The beach side residence, also owned by Regine, is a new three bedroom property perfect for families or larger groups.
All in all we would highly recommend the studio. Great value for the dollars. Fantastic owner who genuinely seemed to care about our experience in Mauritius. Outstanding!
