About this property

Bear Cub Cabin: An Enchanted Sanctuary

Need to unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature? Perhaps a romantic getaway? Retreat to our 900 sq. ft. cabin nestled in 22 acres of the Northeast Kingdom's most magical forest. Wander the enchanted trails, dip your toes in Job's Pond, or take a short drive to scenic Lake Willoughby. Indoors, take in the natural views, relax in the meditation space, stargaze on the balcony, or just nap by the wood stove. Bear Cub invites you to breathe in and remember what inspires you.

Bear Cub Cabin was almost entirely built by the loving hands of a skilled carpenter, and you can feel it in every detail. The open-concept design of Bear Cub Cabin incorporates a fully equipped kitchen with a center island and an exposed beam ceiling as well as a spacious living area. In the winter months, cozy up to the warm glow of the heat stove, relax in the reading nook with the writings of Thoreau, or take a seat at the antique writing desk and let your pen follow your imagination back in time. The art and decor have been carefully selected to inspire and delight our guests, and include original woodcut prints and engravings from local artists as well as other whimsical touches and surprises.

Follow the spiral staircase up to the loft bedroom and sink into the luxurious linens of the queen-sized captain's bed. Perhaps you'd like to start your mornings or end your days with quiet reflection time in the meditation space or venture out the French doors onto the balcony and listen to birds and the wind rustling the leaves.

Bear Cub Cabin caters to natural views, so we haven't installed any digital screens. But we do provide onsite high-speed WiFi and a Bluetooth speaker for your enjoyment. When temperatures are cold, enjoy the easy-to-use gas log heat stove, or simply adjust the thermostat to your preferred temperature to use the central gas heating.

**A full-size 4-wheel drive vehicle is a must for snow and mud seasons. The last 3 miles of the trip to Bear Cub Cabin are a gravel road. The road and the driveways are well maintained and regularly snow plowed but can get tricky at times with snow and ice conditions.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. We will do our best to accommodate you!

Absolutely Enchanting!
My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying at Bear Cub Cabin! The cabin was clean, wonderfully cozy, beautifully decorated with thoughtful and delightful art, and beyond peaceful. It had *everything* we needed and we felt instantly at home in the space. We came up to the NEK for my husband to attend a private workshop I gifted him for his birthday last year. While he attended his class each day, I enjoyed the quiet serenity of the cabin. With several feet of snow on the ground and the trees draped in a sparkly coat of crystallized snow, it was like a true Winter Wonderland. The cabin felt like an absolute oasis in the middle of this dreamworld - truly magical. We have stayed at many vacation rentals in many places and this was one of our absolute favorites. It was so perfect - thoughtfully equipped with a thorough guidebook that answered almost every question we had. When the one thing we couldn't find in there came up, we reached out to Tina and received an immediate response and address to the inquiry. I can't praise this place enough! We already can't wait to come back

Fantastic Retreat
My wife and I stayed for a week and it was our first time exploring Vermont. The cabin has everything you need with a well stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, and an awesome fireplace. If you are looking for a quiet sanctuary this is the place to be. Look forward to visiting again in the future.

Magical Forest Getaway
A wonderful property, secluded in the forests of northern Vermont. We stayed during the summer. The property is exactly as advertised. It is perfect for those seeking a quiet getaway. The kitchen is well-equipped, and there are fantastic farm-stands in the area to supply yourself with local produce, eggs, etc. There are also some great restaurants in the surrounding villages. Try The Inn at Burklyn for a fancy splurge, or The Burke Public House for seriously good pub food. We enjoyed a quiet weekend of reading on the front porch, board games, and star-gazing from the top deck. For something off-beat, we recommend a day excursion to The Museum of Everyday Life and The Bread + Puppets Museum. Parker Pie House is a great stop for lunch in the area. We also recommend Next Trick brewery, which is only a few miles down the road. If you're coming from the south, and enjoy baking, a stop at the King Arthur campus in Norwich is an absolute must. Overall a wonderful experience that will rejuvenate busy lives. Justin + Grace

Secluded and cozy
Great stay, clean and comfortable, close to excellence hiking and paddling. A quiet escape, just remote enough to somewhat unplug, but everything you might need is available in Island Pond or Newport. Thanks Tina!

I live and work in the concrete and glass jungles of Houston, Texas. I love my city, my work, and my people, but I need wild spaces and alone time to remember who I am. I am also a lifelong traveler and enjoy being immersed in other cultures, languages, and approaches to life.

My fascination with personal growth and healing has led me to a lifelong study of individual and community consciousness practices, including yoga and meditation, wilderness rites of passage, and other ancient wisdom traditions. I'm also a fan of classic and contemporary poetry and the memoir.

Why they chose this property

Our intention for Mandala Ridge Retreats (Bear Cub and Firefly Cabins) is to inspire our guests and provide opportunities to reconnect to the natural world, each other, and themselves. We invite you to join us in deep respect and reverence for this land and all beings that inhabit it.
