Discover a new destination in this old Texas town
Make yourself right at home in one of Texas's oldest cities, founded in 1837. The historic small town of Montgomery has a big claim to fame: it's the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag, Texas's iconic symbol of state pride and its independent history. Whether your Montgomery vacation rental is on one of the quaint central streets or the banks of beautiful Lake Conroe, you'll love this peaceful area. The nearby Sam Houston National Forest is a haven for nature lovers, with miles of hiking trails, hunting spots and recreational areas.
Don't let bygones be bygones—marvel at Montgomery's past
Have a hankering for some history? Check out Fernland Historical Park, an educational area featuring log cabins that are some of the state's oldest buildings. Many Montgomery vacation rentals are near Lake Conroe Park, where you can enjoy BBQ pits, picnic tables, fishing piers and swimming areas. Lake Conroe itself is 21,000 acres of cool fresh waters, cute coves, marinas and beaches. And if you wanna go a little deeper into the woods, the surrounding Sam Houston National Forest is there for you.
Take a tasting tour and make room for authentic Texas food
Whatever you do, put food at the top of the list. From Tex Mex chili con carne to BBQ beef brisket, Texans do some good eatin', so loosen that belt and pull up a chair. And while you're at it, check out one of the local wineries or a tasting tour for another kind of liquid gold. If this ain't your first rodeo in Texas, you know those cattle-herding competitions are full of fun and rowdy crowds. Finally, you've got an endless well of outdoor activities at Lake Conroe and Sam Houston National Forest.
Triple-digit heat you can beat with a refreshing swim
Comin' here for some summer fun? Slap on some sunscreen and leave your cowboy boots at home, because it's hotter than blue blazes here. Average summer temps are in the 90s and highs hit triple digits, easy. It's humid too, and that means you'll see some some rain grazing the plains, mostly likely in the spring and fall. You will not, however, see a white winter, as average temps are in the 40s and 50s through December and January. Spring and fall are terrific times to visit, given the pleasantly warm temps and occasional thunderstorm.
