Great location just outside of Sequoia National Park. Peaceful, quiet, and close to nature. I would recommend it for anyone interested in unplugging and exploring Sequoia for a few days.

Fantastic Stay
My family had such a great experience at the Sequoia Mountain View Cottage! The host was so responsive and gave fantastic tips that helped make my trip planning so much easier. The location could not have been better for easy access to Sequoia National Park either. The cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable. I cannot express enough, the ways this host and his co-host went above and beyond for us. Book with them and you will not be disappointed!

About the host

Host profile image
I am a retired college professor. For thirty years I taught classes in Geology, Environmental Science, and an introduction to Physics and Chemistry.
Prior to teaching I worked for Hughes Aircraft Company and got them to build a solar panel manufacturing plant around 1980. Hughes sold it to Atlantic Richfield and it became ARCO Solar.

From 1982 to 1989 I was VP for planning and development of Windridge Inc., a company putting up wind turbines in Tehachapi, Calif. From 1990 to 1995 I worked for Southern California Edison in their Research/Environmental Affairs Divisions.

It took me 6 years to take all the classes, but in 1968 I received two 4 year BS Degrees, one in Physics and one in Chemistry from UCLA. Then in 1969 I was taken out of Graduate School at UCLA to serve during the Viet Nam war. I went through Officer Candidate School and was assigned to the Naval Currier Station in Naples Italy. The last two of my three years I was the Commanding Officer of the currier station. After I separated from active service, I toured Europe for two months then drove a VW Camper around the Mediterranean Ocean going as far East as Bagdad. I arrived back in Los Angeles. My travels had taken a year. I returned to UCLA and finished my Ph.D. in Geochemistry. I investigated how anaerobic methane bacteria produce half of the natural gas in an oil deposit.

My parents were school teachers and never taught summer school. Through out my childhood my parents would vacation every summer at Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Back then there were no limits on how long you could stay. So we spent 6 weeks camping in Yosemite and then 6 weeks in Lodge Pole camp ground in Sequoia. Thus, 1/4 of my childhood was spent in those National Parks.

In 2013 I saw an add for the “Kaweah River Ranch.” I said to myself “I know the Kaweah River, I need to see what this is.” And I ended up buying this wonderful piece of land.

Why they chose this property

THE RIVER! More than a mile of the Main Fork of the Kaweah River flows through my ranch. Swimming, fishing. Just sitting by the river listing to the water is so restful. In the summer it is 20 degrees cooler next to the river. The plants and trees near the river are green all year long and the river has never stopped flowing. The main reason I bought the ranch was that I fell in love with the river.

Your cabin is only 10 minutes or so from the entrance gate to Sequoia National Park.

THE VIEWS: From the porch of your cabin you can see Moro Rock (6,700 feet above sea level) on the left, Alta Peak (11,000 feet above sea level) in the center and another peak (11,600 feet above sea level) in the distance on the left. From the river at the lndian Pothole Swimming Hole you can see 1/3 mile of the river with Moro Rock and Alta Peak in the distance. From the top of the ranch you can see half of the view from the top of Moro Rock including Alta Peak, Triple Divide Peak (12,600 feet above sea level), Mount Stuart (9,200 feet above sea level) and other mountain peaks. On a walk along the road there are several views of the river and the mountains. From all over the ranch there are various view points.

HIKES:
Hike the main road: This is an easy hike that is two miles total down and back. There are beautiful views of the river and the mountains.

Hike to the Upper Pond. In the spring time there will be water in the pond and wildflowers everywhere. There are beautiful views of mountains.

Hike to the Water Fall. Same road above the Upper Pond is the 60 foot high water fall. It is a beautiful privet place to have lunch.

Hike to the Top of the Ranch. It is a great place for pictures. You will see Moro Rock, Alta Peak, Triple Divide Peak , Mount Stuart and the Castel Rocks.

You can hike along the river and there are places all over the ranch to explore.

You can fish along the river and in the ponds. You can swim in two great, 8 feet deep, Swimming Holes.

What makes this property unique

The ranch is truly amazing.

Your cabin is only 10 minutes or so from the entrance gate to Sequoia National Park.

What you are renting is a $20 million trophy ranch as well as a place to stay for a few nights or more. The size of the ranch is 1/2 of a square mile, plus an additional 62 acers. The ranch has more than a mile of river frontage on the main fork of the Kaweaha River and for half of that I own both sides of the river so it is private. Only my guests are allowed to be there.

There are two swimming holes along the river that are private. Each is roughly 100 feet long and 30 feet wide. They are 8 feet deep at the deepest, yet they have shallow beaches that are safe for young children. The river has never gone dry. You can swim all year round but in the Winter and spring the water is very cold.

Along the river is a great place to fish. There are trout, small mouthed bass and other fish in the river. Also I have 4 ponds with small mouthed bass and catfish. These ponds are great for childeren to lean to fish.

A 60 foot high waterfall is a unique destination for a hike on the ranch and a beautifull, private place to have lunch.

A hike to the top of the ranch provides fantastic views of high mountain peaks. More than half of the view that is seen from the top of Moro Rock can be seen from my ranch.

The hike along the dirt road that runs through the ranch for a mile is simple, easy walk. You will see beautiful views of the main fork of the Kaweaha River as well as fablulous views of Moro Rock and majestic Alta Peak, which reaches11,000 feet above sea level. The full hike down and back is 2 miles, but you can stop and return at any piont.

There are endless oportunities to go off and explore the wild natural landscape of the ranch and see wild animals in thier natural habitat. You can encounter deer, foxes, bobcats, Squirrels, maybe a bear. More than 1/2 square mile of the ranch is protected by a Consrvation Easement and will remain natural.
