Why Michelle L McClish chose Robbinsville
Lake Santeetlah is a lake surrounded 75% by National Forest and is not crowded with lakefront homes and boat traffic. The property is surrounded by woodlands but has access to the lake with a permitted boat dock. It is out of the way and serene.
What makes this Lodge unique
We have our own pond with fountain, access to the lake, and space for many people to sleep comfortably with 8 private bedrooms with baths. The local Ingles grocery store is just 8 miles. There are 2 marinas on the lake for boat and jet ski rentals. Read the many reviews of the Retreat on Trip Advisor ( tripadvisor.com) that have been entered under the Blue Boar Inn, Robbinsville, NC listing from 2012-2016 when it became the private large group rental facility. These will provide much insight into other group's experiences in the woodlands.

Big Family Vacation in the Mountains
Our annual BIG family reunion (5 families, lot of young kids) was at the Blue Boar Retreat this year, located in a beautiful and secluded part of Graham Co, NC. The kids and adults loved swimming and paddling in the clean and refreshing waters of Lake Santeetlah. Great hiking trails in the nearby Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness area as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Enjoyed fishing for and catching trout in the numerous trout streams of the area. White water rafting was very enjoyable too (with trips suited to every skill level). The kids, ranging in age from 15 months to 20 years, all had a blast!
Logan, the property manager, was very responsive to any concerns we had while also giving us space to enjoy our special week together.
The Blue Boar Retreat was a good fit for our large group with eight individual rooms, each with a full bathroom. The outdoor fire pit was put to good use too. The large industrial kitchen was great to have as we cooked for our group daily. LOTS of fridge space! We did have to tinker around a little when using some of the older equipment (example: the fume hood wasn't working so we had to use a large fan and vent the heat and grill smoke out of the kitchen). But the 6-burner stove, large griddle, large sink, and regular-sized dishwasher all made meal prep for a large group very manageable.
This is a great rustic lodging in a beautiful and secluded part of the North Carolina Mountains. I hope to return soon!
Our family had a wonderful time together at the Blue Boar. The layout of the property is outstanding for an extended family vacation, with eight bedrooms/baths along a hallway that leads to a generously sized gathering room and dining area. Michelle was very accommodating.
Great getaway for large groups
We were the first to stay for the 2019 season. While there were a few minor property issues, the property manager was able to address the issues. The location is great and very relaxing. Overall this was a great property and my family really enjoyed their stay.
It was a beautiful and peaceful place.
It was a beautiful and peaceful place. The host let us do a late check-out because there were no one coming in next day. And we are thankful for that. Noah met us promptly and gave a quick tour. We had everything we need to make it a comfortable stay. There were some good DVD collections and a lot of board games for everyone to enjoy. We even had a campfire with the firewood they provided. The kitchen seemed restaurant style with lot of utensils and stocked pantry. A few utensils had definitely seen some mileage, but they were clean. The whole place was nice and clean. Definitely worth recommending.
Our family loved our stay at the Blue Boar Retreat!
There were many great things about the Blue Boar Retreat. I’m listing just a few below:
1. They recognized and welcomed our entire family. People and Pets alike! It was a blessing being able to bring our family pets. It was like we were visiting each other at one of our own homes.
2. We ware able to rent the entire resort, so we had the kind of privacy needed for family to let it all hang out.
3. The property was large enough for my large family to spend several days there without us feeling like we were getting in each other’s way.
4. Any issues and or needs we had during our stay were addressed immediately by the staff.
We are considering another stay at the Blue Boar for our next family vacation!
Peaceful setting on beautiful lake Santeelah.
White water rafting, birding, wildflower viewing, fly fishing, canoeing, scenic drives, Tail of the Dragon, Deals Gap, Nantahala Gorge, boat rentals for lake Santeetlah. Local arts and crafts. Cherokee History information. Area draws motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts from all over the country to ride the Tail of the Dragon, an 11 mile stretch of road with 318 curves. Graham is known its for car gatherings and motorcycle rallies.
Lake Santeetlah is the most scenic and least visited of any lake on the eastern seaboard. With approximately 75% of the shoreline either USFS lands or in conservation easements, you will always enjoy a guiet boating experience. The mountains rise right out of the shoreline and there are long range views from just about anywhere on the lake. And this area looks much the same as the first European Settlers found it when they drove their wagons across the 5,000 foot high mountain divides to get here.
