Why Michelle L McClish chose Robbinsville
Lake Santeetlah is a lake surrounded 75% by National Forest and is not crowded with lakefront homes and boat traffic. The property is surrounded by woodlands but has access to the lake with a permitted boat dock. It is out of the way and serene.
What makes this Lodge unique
Lake access and space for many people to sleep comfortably with 8 private bedrooms with baths. The local Ingles grocery store is just 8 miles. There are 2 marinas on the lake for boat and jet ski rentals. Read the many reviews of the Lodge on Trip Advisor ( tripadvisor.com) that have been entered under the Blue Boar Inn, Robbinsville, NC listing from 2012-2016 when it became the private large group rental facility. These will provide much insight into other group's experiences in the woodlands.

The PERFECT house for our group of college friends
We have been getting together with our college friends for 40+ years, during which time we have been in constant pursuit of the perfect house. This house clicked all the boxes so we agreed to refer to it hereafter as the Promised Land.
The house is actually nicer than it looks in the pictures. It has 8 comparable bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms. The house is not what I would call luxurious, but it is well maintained. There is sufficient room in the public spaces to get everyone together, but the house is big enough to allow you to get away and have some quiet time independent of the group. The furniture and beds are comfortable, the dining room accommodates all of us at one table, the kitchen is industrial and makes it easy to prepare meals for our group of 16. This was the first house we ever stayed in that had enough refrigerator space. There was a great spot for puzzles and games. We really enjoyed the fire pit and the owner even supplied us with firewood.
The location was great. There were plenty of hiking trails for the hikers in the group. Robbinsville is about 15 minutes away where there is a very good grocery store, drug stores, etc.
The owner/manager was easy to contact and very responsive to all our inquiries. The price was a good value, especially if you are sharing the cost with others.
If you need a big house for a reunion or a gathering of a large group, don't hesitate to rent this house.
For our family it was perfect. The caretaker was wonderful and handled all our needs.

This rental was exactly what we were expecting and looking for to accommodate our large family. The lodge is outstanding the scenery beautiful! A bit of down hill, up hill walk to the lake but once there is was fantastic! We even caught fish!
The host was there immediately to take care of our every concern. Check in and check out was flawless ! Our security deposit was returned immediately.
My entire family is in agreement that we would definitely book this place again.
Big Family Vacation in the Mountains
Our annual BIG family reunion (5 families, lot of young kids) was at the Blue Boar Retreat this year, located in a beautiful and secluded part of Graham Co, NC. The kids and adults loved swimming and paddling in the clean and refreshing waters of Lake Santeetlah. Great hiking trails in the nearby Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness area as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Enjoyed fishing for and catching trout in the numerous trout streams of the area. White water rafting was very enjoyable too (with trips suited to every skill level). The kids, ranging in age from 15 months to 20 years, all had a blast!
Logan, the property manager, was very responsive to any concerns we had while also giving us space to enjoy our special week together.
The Blue Boar Retreat was a good fit for our large group with eight individual rooms, each with a full bathroom. The outdoor fire pit was put to good use too. The large industrial kitchen was great to have as we cooked for our group daily. LOTS of fridge space! We did have to tinker around a little when using some of the older equipment (example: the fume hood wasn't working so we had to use a large fan and vent the heat and grill smoke out of the kitchen). But the 6-burner stove, large griddle, large sink, and regular-sized dishwasher all made meal prep for a large group very manageable.
This is a great rustic lodging in a beautiful and secluded part of the North Carolina Mountains. I hope to return soon!
Our family had a wonderful time together at the Blue Boar. The layout of the property is outstanding for an extended family vacation, with eight bedrooms/baths along a hallway that leads to a generously sized gathering room and dining area. Michelle was very accommodating.
Great getaway for large groups
We were the first to stay for the 2019 season. While there were a few minor property issues, the property manager was able to address the issues. The location is great and very relaxing. Overall this was a great property and my family really enjoyed their stay.
White water rafting, birding, wildflower viewing, fly fishing, canoeing, scenic drives, Tail of the Dragon, Deals Gap, Nantahala Gorge, boat rentals for lake Santeetlah. Local arts and crafts. Cherokee History information. Area draws motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts from all over the country to ride the Tail of the Dragon, an 11 mile stretch of road with 318 curves. Graham is known its for car gatherings and motorcycle rallies.
Lake Santeetlah is the most scenic and least visited of any lake on the eastern seaboard. With approximately 75% of the shoreline either USFS lands or in conservation easements, you will always enjoy a guiet boating experience. The mountains rise right out of the shoreline and there are long range views from just about anywhere on the lake. And this area looks much the same as the first European Settlers found it when they drove their wagons across the 5,000 foot high mountain divides to get here.
