About Jack and Gayle Sanders
We have enjoyed family vacations and ski weekends in our Waterville Valley home for over three decades - skiing, playing tennis, hiking and more, all in this unique mountain resort community. Now with our children grown and living as far away as the West Coast, it is time to share our mountain home with adventurous travelers.
Jack and Gayle Sanders purchased this House in 1978
Why Jack and Gayle Sanders chose Waterville Valley
Our Waterville Valley house on Snow's Mountain has served our family well. It has plenty of room for active kids and is the perfect home base for all seasons with tennis courts at the bottom of the street, the Waterville Valley BBTS Training Center and Bag Jump at the base of Snow's Mountain and a hiking trail that goes right up our driveway. You can even access the Criterion cross country trail right below our driveway.
What makes this House unique
An original, post and beam, Yankee Barn home, our Waterville Valley home fits right in with its mountain setting. Old barn timbers and soaring windows looking out over the valley create a special feeling. You know that you're not back home in the city or suburbs.

My family and I come back every year (10 years now?). It is always an absolutely wonderful experience. Thanks, Jack and Gayle, for sharing your home with us!
We look forward to welcoming you and your family every summer. It makes us very happy to know that you enjoy our house in the mountains as much as we do.
We had a great time in this wonderful house!
It was our first time in NH and we have really enjoyed it. The house is very big and very well equipped and it is located in a Very nice spot deep into the forest .
Gayle and Jack were very quick to respond and very accommodating with our needs. Over all a wonderful experience! Thanks you for sharing your beautiful place with us.
We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your Waterville Valley getaway. Being surrounded by the forest is so therapeutic. Thanks for vacationing at our mountain home.
Charming home located close to everything in Waterville Valley.
We have a lovely time as guests of Gayle and Jack Sanders over New Years weekend. The house is very well equipped with everything a guest would need. We loved the wood burning stove. There are plenty of bedrooms and a great open concept feel between the kitchen, dining room and family room. There are actually two dining rooms! We had three generations of my family there and the Sanders could not have been more hospitable. We totally enjoyed our stay. There is so much to do within a 2-3 minute drive from the home. The family fireworks were wonderful. I highly recommend this lovely home for any future guests. Hoping we can make a trip back, potentially in the summer, to see all that the area has to offer. Thanks again for a wonderful weekend.
Thank you for sharing your experience vacationing at our house. It is truly heartwarming to know that our house continues to be a place where grandparents, parents and kids can enjoy time together and explore the winter activities and beauty of Waterville Valley. When the snow melts, the national forest comes alive, nature's playground for all ages. We look forward to your return.
Clean, comfortable and spacious. Easily accommodated our extended family
Gayle and John were very responsive and available for my questions. The house has a lovely rustic mountain cabin feel. The woodstove worked great to take off the chill. The home was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was there. The only downside was the the weather - rain followed by freezing so lots of ice.
Thank you for your kind words. We love having families vacation together at our house and enjoy the sound of happy memories being created. Although the sunshine we requested for your stay did not arrive, we glad the woodstove made it cozy.
Beautiful but NOT a Single Family home...
This is a multi-family home with a basement converted to a small apartment that the owner can occupy at will during your stay. This might be just fine if the owners were upfront about it and included it in the listing description. We were quite surprised when we arrived and were informed that Jack and Gayle would be staying in the basement. They seem like lovely people, but quickly took an offensive stance when we explained that we were not comfortable with residents directly below us.
We put a deposit on this rental in March for Thanksgiving Weekend. We chose the home because it slept 10 and allowed dogs with owner's permission. We had early correspondence about the dog and secured the property for us and our two teenage boys. Each boy brought 2 friends which put us at 8 people. We spend a lot of time in Waterville Valley and our nights include guitar jam sessions and family sing-alongs. We would not willingly subject residents below us to these conditions.
When we expressed concern about sharing the home, Jack and Gayle's response was to point out that we were over the number of people, they didn't know about the dog, and the owner's unit was disclosed in the rental agreement. The rental agreement states "The property is in Waterville Valley, NH (excepting basement apartment which is reserved solely for the use of the Homeowner)" This tells me there is an area of the house I don't have access to. It does not tell me that area will be occupied during my stay. I was also concerned that the basement door locked on my side (I could not enter basement) but had no way for me to secure the door. This didn't feel safe to me.
So long story short, we did not stay at this property. We did not want to be "shushing" our kids the entire stay. When we asked the owners how they would feel about guitar music late into the night, Jack's comment was "we would just call the cops". That sealed the deal for us, and we found other accommodations.
Overall very disappointing. All could have been avoided if Jack and Gayle told us in advance we might be sharing the home. We would never have rented it. All of our interactions with the owners have been polite and cordial, grateful for that. They refunded our security deposit (of course) and money they would have spent to clean the house had we stayed. We appreciated that. We lost the balance which is money well spent if they update the listing to more accurately portray the circumstances.
First of all, we would like to acknowledge that we are very sorry that this party decided not to stay at our Waterville Valley house. We are committed to provide comfortable accommodations for our guests. We do our best to be at the house before guests arrive to do a last minute check and be available to answer questions. So we headed to Waterville Valley to be there for the guests arrival.
Since we live a 2-hour drive away, we exclude the basement from the rental and reserve it for our use allowing us to stay overnight on occasion. Both the listing and rental agreement describe the house accurately and note that the basement apartment, with its own entrance and exit, is reserved for the use of the owner. Over the past 7 years and more than 100 rentals, our occasional overnights have not been a problem. In fact, many guests went out of their way to let us know how helpful our presence was. In no instance was our presence an impediment to the guests’ enjoyment.
We were surprised to learn that our intention to stay overnight was a problem for this party, but respected their feelings. We were also surprised that instead of the 3 adults and 1 kid in the reservation, the party included big teenagers, who, we were told, would be VERY loud for a majority of the weekend. Even though we were willing to let the expanded party stay at the house, they made the decision not to stay.
We believe this is a case of misunderstanding. If we had been asked about the basement apartment being reserved solely for the use of the owner, we could have arrived a mutually agreeable solution.
Lovely rustic home, perfect for large family.
Charming home, all the amenities of a comfortable stay, great location, and the owners Jack and Gayle are lovely and accommodating. Thanks for a amazing trip!
