About Akiko & Hidemasa Yamamoto
I am a retired professor who took her degree from Columbia university in NYC long time ago.
Akiko & Hidemasa Yamamoto purchased this House in 1950
Why Akiko & Hidemasa Yamamoto chose Sumida
Traditional outlook and modern equipments. Convenient to get to Akihabara, Ginza, Asakusa, Shibuya, Shinjuku, or even to Nikko. Bus stop right near the house and get to Asakusa by 10 mins. Less than 10 minutes walk to two major train stations.
What makes this House unique
Though it is located close to Asakusa, the major tourists attraction in Tokyo, Mukojima area is not polluted with commercial tourism. There is a famous Japanese style 'tea house restaurant' where you can see and enjoy Geisha performance with reasonable price.

This is a great place to stay
This place is easy to get to from the airport Via Skyaccess to Oshiage station.
There are two stations close by, Oshiage and Hikifune which make it easy to get to wherever you're going.
The house is small but comfortable. There's plenty of space to drop your luggage, sleep, shower and do laundry. There is also a simple kitchen area with fridge, hot plate, microwave and sink.
You'll have Family Mart right outside your door, plus a grocery store and 7-11 up the street.
Now as for the noise factor, yes it is noisy in Tokyo. I wore earplugs at night and I slept just fine.
This is not a good place for a tall person. I am 6 feet tall and I hit my head numerous times the first couple of days. It would be difficult for anyone over 6 feet to get around inside the apartment.
The neighborhood is charming and laid back. If you like to walk, you can walk to Skytree and across the river to Asakusa. We spent one full day just walking all over Sumida and Asakusa.
Overall this is great place to stay for a very reasonable fee. I would recommend it and I would definitely stay here again.
Another great stay at Sumire House
It’s been the fourth time at the Sumire house. Nothing can beat its authenticity and feel. Fantastic.
Mariusz and the family, thank you very much for your staying at our place repeatedly and the nice comment. Hope you have found out some new better sides of Japan and will come back to our place. Looking forward to seeing you folks again. Thank you again. Hi-de Yamamoto
A wonderful taste of Tokyo
The property lived up to our expectations. The photos and description was quite accurate and we received excellent support when we asked for assistance in navigating the streets and transportation systems. We would choose this property for a future visit to Tokyo if it becomes possible. We found the property in good repair and well equipped.
The property was in good repair and the dishes and cooking facilities were of good quality. The property was well supplied to meet the needs of a traveler.
Dear Craig, thank you very much for your nice review that surely encourages us to feel happy and comfortable in carrying out our service. Hi-de Yamamoto
Wonderful place to stay in Tokyo
Amazing house in Tokyo close to the Skytree making it easy to access all that Tokyo has to offer.
Dear Elaine Sherring,
Thank you very much for your good rating. Do please come back. HIDE Yamamoto
Very nice place to stay.
It was nice to spend a few days in this lovely place and the extra welcome at the train station was definitely a plus!
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your 5 stars. Come back to our Sumire House. HIDE Yamamoto
Cozy, traditional house
All of us enjoyed staying at Sumida House. There was a very informative guide and any questions were quickly answered by the hosts. The bedrooms had plenty of room and the beds were comfortable. The only reason for four stars instead of five is there is a very busy road close by and it was quite loud making sleeping difficult. However this would not keep me from staying again but I would bring ear plugs next time.
Dear Janine Maher,
Thank you very much for your staying at our place. Sorry about your sleeping. Did Kelly have a good start with her Japanese University? I assume you folks went over to Sumida river to walk along under its famous Sakura blossoms in bloom. Sakura and the river has been well-known as authentic beauty of old Japan and wish good photos were taken with the camera.
Thank you very much again. Fumiho

How about having a day trip to Nikko, where one of the most famous shinto shrines in Japan is located? That was built for a tomb for Yeyasu Tokugawa, who started Tokugawa shogunate in 1603. From Sumire House, it is very easy to get to Nikko.
Kyoto enjoyed culture of court nobles with showy buildings and gorgeous eating/clothing habit while Nikko, the place where the top samurai is laid, has different taste.
