1 bedroom cottage to sleep 2 by the shores of the Cromarty Firth
Allan or Shona Macdonald
About Allan or Shona Macdonald
I have lived in the area most of my life and have lived in my own house which is adjacent but detached from Osprey Cottage for more than 30 years. I am a self employed joiner and work locally.
Allan or Shona Macdonald purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Allan or Shona Macdonald chose Invergordon
The cottage was originally a substantial stone outbuilding and at the time there were very few self catering cottages in the local area. As we have always chosen self catering holidays we decided to give it a go and renovate and extend the cottage to make it what it is today.

A great holiday in a fabulous cottage.
The cottage was well prepared for our arrival and everything went well. We found a welcome pack on arrival which was very much appreciated after a rather long drive. Even the weather co-operated (better than in other parts of UK!!!
Great for 2 people
Literally, a home from home... Transport is a necessity as it is 3 to 6 miles from from the shopping.... No proper access to WiFi.
A lovely cottage in an absolutely stunning location on the shores of the Cromarty Firth. The cottage was clean, warm and extremely comfortable with everything you needed and more for a great holiday. There ws
A beautiful cottage for a wonderful holiday
The cottage is in a perfect central location to visit a range of interesting sights and activities. We visited Loch Ness, Inverness, Dornoch, Tain, John o Grosts and many other places. Fort Rose is the perfect place to see the wild dolphins In the estuary - just make sure you go at around high tide. Wild Seals on the sand banks of Loch Fleet was a lovely surprise.
The cottage was beautifully designed, decorated and equipped. There is also an impressive collection of CDs, DVDs and books. We weren't in need of anything at all. The lovely treats on arrival were a lovely surprise. Previous reviews have mentioned an uncomfortable mattress, however the owners have sinced purchased a new one and it was extremely comfortable, leading to a very good nights sleep. The hide at the bottom of the garden is a lovely touch to watch the Birds in the estuary and we enjoyed walking along the shore of the estuary in the evening. Our hosts were very discreet but very friendly and helpful when we did meet them.
Lovely cottage but didn't get much sleep
The cottage is in a very good place for exploring the area, it is very clean and extremely well equipped with some much appreciated little treats left by the owners. The only complaint we had was the uncomfortable bed and pillows, we could feel the wooden slats of the bed base through the thin mattress which was a pity as so much care had gone into making the rest of the cottage first class. Had it not been for this one thing we would have given Osprey cottage 5 stars
Cottage was in a great location and was exactly as advertised. If I could change anything it would be the bed as we found it soft but that is a personal preference. Lots of information and places to visit.
'Osprey Cottage' is situated on the shores of the Cromarty firth between Barbaraville and Saltburn by the B817. Adjacent, but detached from the owners property and ideal for those interested in birdwatching. Ski: The nearest Ski resort is Aviemore which is about 1 hours drive South on the A9.
