Gorgeous cottage in the best town in the Netherlands
We had the most amazing visit to Amersfoort and loved the period cottage. The hostess, Jeannie, was extremely thoughtful and helpful. The cottage has modern updates and is in a perfect location. We toured around the Netherlands, but could not wait to return to walk around the gorgeous medieval town of Amersfoort. The house is in a perfect location, only minutes from the shops, pubs, and restaurants. We could not have enjoyed our stay anymore, it was perfect!
A Lovely Cottage in a Beautiful City!
A Perfect Host, The Cottage is just what i needed and the City is like living in a Post Card, this is a My Second visit to this Property and Im already planning my return. An Easy Walk to Everything. The Emmplein has a Grocery, Pharmacy and just about what ever else you might require, a 5 minutes walk. A few minutes by train to Utrecht and Amsterdam, without the Crush of the Tourist, a Hidden Gem! Thank you Jeanine and Onno
Clean and Beautiful Home away from Home
We were so lucky to find this incredibly enjoyable home available during our vacation! It was spacious, clean, comfortable, well-maintained, and unique. The hosts were easy to work with, friendly, helpful, and prompt. Thank you so much to Onno for accommodating the odd times for us. A short, easy train ride from Amsterdam to the charming historic town of Amersfoort was well worth the trip. We will not forget walking and riding bikes through the town and the enormous Saturday market. We look forward to staying in this home again! Highly recommended.
Warm, charming home and community, great host
We had an awesome stay. The host was concerned and helpful when we had difficulty finding our way to her home. She met us where we could park (which was just a half a block away), took us to her home and gave us a tour and answered questions. Great stay, great host, awesome town. Shopping for groceries was just under the bridge, and everything we needed (including the train) was within walking distance. The only downside is a bar located adjacent to the property, can get loud at night. Would stay again!
renovated, unique, spacious place convenient to old and new town amersfoort
my friend and i were traveling through the netherlands by bike and stayed here for two nights. the space itself was perfect -- enough room for both of us to spread out and get a good night's sleep and a hot shower. it was also very clean and very well appointed. neither of us had been to amersfoort before, and the town is charming. plenty to do, great restaurants, and this location was perfect to access all of it. it's also a stone's throw away from the old gate to the city. so cool to be right next to this historical landmark. the host was incredibly helpful in suggesting places to go eat and things to see. would love to go back! highly recommend this spot.
comfy stay in beautiful medieval Amersfoort
The apartment is extremely comfortable, nice kitchen area, living room, and bedroom with a high slanted ceiling (up short flight of steep stairs). Jeanine and Rudy were extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and other advice. The location is right by Koppelpoort, an ancient gate into the gorgeous medieval center of Amersfoort, full of interesting, picturesque streets and great places to eat. One slight drawback: because it's so close to a major tourist attraction, and next to a small local bar with pool table etc., there were often people outside our bedroom window late at night, talking loudly. Otherwise, perfect.
Het Spuihuisje is located next to the famous Koppelpoort and a small café. The Koppelpoort, the calling card of historic Amersfoort, is a unique combination of port land and water gate, the only one in the Netherlands! This gate dates from 1425 also gives access to the 'new' and 'old' part of Amersfoort.
On one side of the Koppelpoort is modern Eemplein, where you can cozy up to the movie, to the museum can rent QUAY or a sloop. You can also dine in the various restaurants such as Dara, Sushi Today. If you continue your walk along the river Eem you can take a look at 'new town'.
The other side of the Koppelpoort offers plenty of opportunities to climb to taste the old town of Amersfoort culture in the Museum Flehite, the Mondriaan House, the 'Long John' or are part of the actual festivities. A comprehensive city tour or a cruise with the waterline should not be missed during your visit.
With its central location, there are numerous cycling routes in the neighborhood, but also further afield towards the Soesterduinen or Treek is definitely recommended. Highly recommended is the bicycle boat Eemlijn, which provides a daily cruise from the Eemhaven - near the Spuihuisje - with pick-up points in Soest, Baarn, Eemdijk, Huizen or Spakenburg, and ends in Amersfoort.
