About this property

112-Acre Sheep Farm Guesthouse: Animals, Nature, Scenery

Enjoy a country vacation amid the green, rolling hills of our sustainable livestock farm in the Susquehanna River Valley. With hundreds of sheep, friendly pigs , chickens, turkeys, working border collies, horses, and honeybees, there is always something interesting going on. You'll stay in The Loft, a cozy guesthouse with 4 beds on the second floor: one bunk bed, one twin, and one double. Your visit is very private and personal, because we host only one group at a time. We are in the country, but grocery stores and amenities are just 10 minutes away. Explore our woods and fields, curl up with a good book by the pond, watch the antics of the flock. Take a sunset walk up Turkey Hill, a favorite spot for deer and yes, turkeys. We'll let you know what farm activities are planned during your stay, and you are welcome to observe or participate as you wish. Families welcome: for safety's sake, children must be supervised at all times. There are many other guest attractions in the region, such as Knoebel's Amusement Park, Clyde Peelings Reptile Museum, and Tobias Wild Animal Park. Dave and I are your hosts: we live steps away from the guesthouse. Note: when we say Sleeps 6, we feel the space is best suited when the 6 includes kids. 6 adults will seem a bit crowded.

Amazing Experience
Great time staying on David and Caroline's farm. They were great hosts and you felt like you were visiting family. We were free to roam the farm and visit the animals. My husband would go out with David in the morning to do farm chores. He loved learning about the daily farm duties. We also got a bee keeping lesson-very interesting!. The barn was cute and comfortable and perfect for our stay. It was just enough room. There is wifi but no tv. At first I was worried about that, but we decided to stay anyway. We took advantage of family time and played games so we didn't even miss the tv. The farm dogs and cats were adorable and friendly and would come up to you to pet them. The 2 pigs were so cute running to greet us when we were going to see them. We also got to see the pony and the horse which was loving the attention from us. The location is central to many area attractions, but you may also want to leave some time to spend on the farm. We really wished we had more time to spend there but were so booked up with visiting attractions. It was a great time for us and our two 20 year old children. We really enjoyed it! I highly recommend the farm for families with younger children and even grandparents wanting to take their grandchildren on a memorable vacation. We have a few friends that heard about our stay and want to visit. Thanks David and Caroline for a vacation that we will always talk about! We are looking forward to visiting you again in the spring! Have a great winter!

We were so happy to be able to stay at Owens farm again this summer… my daughters and I had the pleasure last summer and we’re so excited to bring my boyfriend this time around. He enjoyed the honey and all the animals and we can’t wait to come back and order fresh lamb and turkey next season!!! Thank you again Owens Family!!

If you like rural, this is for you!
We loved staying on the farm. It beats a hotel any day of the week. The bunk room was perfect for our family. Lots of space and all the amenities you need. The space is well appointed and organized. Arriving late and night was a concern but very easy to find. Perfect for the Bucknell Graduation weekend. Thank you!

About the host

Hosted by Caroline and David Owens

Host profile image
We are David and Caroline Owens, the family behind Owens Farm. We have three children, 'grown and flown'. Our farm boasts 112 acres of rolling pasture, with lovely views in all directions. A traditional red Pennsylvania Bank barn, pond, and classic white farmhouse complete the picture.
We started farming on 13 acres in New Hampshire. We raised livestock for our own needs, tending our animals in a natural setting and avoiding chemicals and growth stimulants. It was only a matter of time before neighbors approached us, asking if we could raise and sell some extra animals. People were learning about the pitfalls of industrial agriculture, and seeking pasture-raised meat for their families. A business was born. By 2007, we were ready for a larger farm. A two-year search led to the state of Pennsylvania and the town of Sunbury.
OUR BACKGROUNDS:
Caroline is a former Vocational Agriculture teacher who worked in marketing communications and the equestrian travel business before starting her family. She holds a B.S. in Animal Science/Agricultural Education from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Boston University.
David is an engineer now running his own database and software consulting business. He earned his B.S. in Engineering from the University of Lowell and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University.

Why they chose this property

We knew this was our farm the minute we drove in the driveway. We were looking for a farm with we were raising grass-fed livestock. The more we saw, the better it looked: there were existing fencelines, a pond, interesting conservation areas to attract wildlife, space for an orchard and bees, barn space , and welcoming neighbors who were also farmers. Equally important, the folks around here appreciate a source of humanely raised, healthy meats.

What makes this property unique

You will not feel like a number here (well, ok, maybe Number 1!). We have one rental space, and accommodate a single group at a time. We honor your privacy, but welcome you to join in the farm activities as time and interest allows. We will let you know what we plan on doing during your stay, but there is absolutely no pressure to '"get your hands dirty". This is not just a working farm, but also a lovely, peaceful place to unwind and watch the world go by. Roaming piglets, baahhing sheep, and crowing roosters will be your soundtrack.
