House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
About Sean McCormack
Sean grew up in the area, skiing every weekend at Purgatory, and graduating from Durango High School before leaving to experience life outside this rural community. After 25 years, he and Leslie decided to move back to the mountains of Southwest Colorado to be close to family and all of the outdoor activities they enjoy.
Sean McCormack purchased this House in 2007
Why Sean McCormack chose Columbine Lake
This area is the Saudi Arabia of solar energy, with plenty of water and lots of trees. It is easy to build a comfortable and highly sustainable life here. All of the houses, barns, and greenhouses were built using wood harvested from the property. The 27' x 110' greenhouse provides fruits and vegetables not only for Sean and Leslie, but for a number of other families in the area. Standing dead trees are harvested and provide a backup heat source for all the homes and buildings, with an additional 120 cords of wood harvested for sale, providing a carbon neutral source of heat. The trees are harvested primarily to improve the health of the forest.
What makes this House unique
There is nothing better than cozying up to a real wood fire after a full day of skiing, watching the snow fall during the winter, or lounging on the covered deck and watching the sun disappear over the mountains during the summer. The kids will have a great time exploring the forest, fishing in the nearby creeks or lake, biking, horseback riding or the many other activities close by.

Peaceful, beautiful, quiet, clean, well equipped, perfect place.
Great place, so quiet and beautiful. Well equipped and clean. Enjoyed it so much. Sean was super helpful and easy to communicate. Great hike to Castle Rock, and then perfect rest at the cabin. My dog had a blast with a whistler visiting every morning:)
Super curious who the whistler is. Not sure if you mean person or bird. Might have to hang out down there one morning to find out.
Thanks for visiting.
I’m reluctant to give it 5 stars because I don’t want this place bombarded or reserved the next time we want to stay!! Lol.
Excellent property. Excellent management. The pictures do not do it justice. This is a perfect solitude place for couples, a perfect place for families, and a perfect place for just wanting to hang out with friends. We loved it and we will be back.
You are one of the brave! While everyone else is cancelling due to fears of Covid-19, you both reserved and stayed. As you now know, this is one of the safest places on the planet during a pandemic. Thanks for visiting! Please come back any time!
An Amazing Retreat
Thank you so much for a wonderful week for our whole family. We are so thankful we followed through with our plans and spent a quiet week in the snow and fresh mountain air. This property is exactly as described and we all immediately felt right at home upon arrival. The house is extremely well kept and comfortable. We truly enjoyed exploring the property in the snow and our boys loved playing in the open area just outside of the windows. The owners are very considerate and obviously put so much care into both the home and the land. When we return to Durango/Purgatory we will not stay anywhere else. Thank you again!
You did a wonderful job cleaning up before you all left. The gals that clean the house were stoked! We're glad you all decided to come amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Once you got here, hopefully you realized this is one of the safest places on the planet to avoid infection, and practice social distancing ;-).
This is a beautiful cabin nestled in the mountains. Sean's attention to detail shows in this property. The cabin is well stocked with cooking supplies and plenty of paper goods to last a couple days. The heated flooring throughout the living space kept the cabin nice and cozy and Sean provides plenty of firewood to keep the fire roaring. We definitely recommend this property to anyone and will be looking forward to coming back!
We loved having you and your family visit over the Holidays! Hopefully it was an experience your kids will remember and talk about their entire lives!
Thanks for visiting.
Perfect place to enjoy family time. House was perfectly nestled as to enjoy the view from any room. Sean's attention to detail was on point. The house had all amenities from home and was comfortable and clean. This house is a definite to stay at when visiting Durango.
We had a wonderful Stay
Thank You Sean
The Martinez Fam.
Frank and Laura,
It was a long drive from Texas for a very short stay. We loved having though! Under communicates well, you get 5 Stars :-). Hope you all come back when you can stay longer!
In addition to all the summer activities at Purgatory, the narrow gauge train runs between Durango and Silverton spring, summer, and fall. There is horseback riding less than 2 miles away. The nearby mountains are criss-crossed with mining roads left over from the area's rich mining history so the 4-wheeling is fantastic. During the winter months there is snowmobiling, sleigh rides, snow shoeing, ice climbing, down hill and cross country skiing.
