Really enjoyed our stay there. The place had everything. A quiet and tranquil experience but we also went into the city and enjoyed ourselves knowing the chalet was waiting for us when we were ready to unwind. Would stay again.
Not what I expected
I typically don't take the time to write anything other than a positive review, but after having read all of the 5 star reviews and wondering how that was possible, I find myself writing an honest review that is, unfortunately, not glowing.
I stayed with my partner from Sunday to Tuesday...however we were booked through Thursday. I have never left early from a place I'd booked through VRBO before and consider myself someone who goes with flow when it comes to travel and accommodations.
On the positive side of things, the space was super clean and tidy. There was ample coffee and the closet kitchen had everything needed for a great cup of coffee in the morning. Reviews about the tub are true- it is a huge jetted tub. I did not get to enjoy it, but totally see how someone would. The entertainment options were awesome and super easy to use.
The owners were very accommodating with my lab/hound mix, although, looking back, I wish they had not been. I brought his crate for when we were away from the home, and it took up all of the space in the living room. Cozy is often a euphemism for small, and this was no different. On the flip side, I did think the weather would be cooler since it was the beginning of October and that I'd be spending more time outside. It was unseasonably warm however, and what time we were at the home was mostly spent inside. Also on the down side for big dog owners is that there really isn't anywhere to walk them. There are no sidewalks, so we used the two adjoined dead end streets for early morning and late night.
As mentioned in one of the other reviews, the door that connects the home from the guest home does not go to the ceiling. We could hear conversations, kitchen noises like silverware on dishes, etc., over the door. If we could hear their conversations, it made us uncomfortable at the thought they could hear ours too, especially since this was meant to be a romantic sort of stay. This was the main reason we decided to leave early- it was just not enough privacy. I think, however, a white noise machine would help. One reviewer also commented on the bed being comfortable...I didn't note how long ago that review was written, but the mattress could use replacing.
On the whole, I was disappointed with the super high rating compared with our experience. The positive characteristics were VERY positive, however issues with privacy were difficult to overcome.
We are sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations, however we are a bit blindsided. With not one word of communication from you during your stay, and our only being in town for one night, we had no idea that you were uncomfortable. Reaching out to us would mean a refund for the remaining nights, which would certainly help with finding a space that better fit your needs. Our only priority is to share the home and property that we love to a those who might appreciate it and get away from the normal negatives of the day. Allowing strangers to enjoy an alternative escape while being just outside of the city and all that it has to offer.
The five star reviews are simply because we offer exactly what was described in the listing. A listing titled "Guest Area" under VRBOs category of a "portion of the home" means that we are often there. Cozy is fitting in that it's actually plenty of space for some and not using wide-filtered pictures promotes honesty. We never openly bother our guests with noise or listen in. There is an industrial sized air purifier beside that hallway door drowning out nearly every sound on our end with white noise. That opening above the door allows ambient air from the guest area to reach the thermostat, and better equalize the temperature for guests while also allowing the air purifier to do it's primary job. Usually the dam is a natural white noise source for guests, but being borderline drought for weeks, the water flow is nominal. We may offer an artificial noise source for concerned guests due to these recent weather conditions. Sorry about the weather, I'll talk to some people about that (most people do! Haha). Sidewalks? It's a quiet, low population street... Which is what people want. Our property is over 1-1/2 acres that you are encouraged to walk your dog on, as well as the multiple dog friendly parks and venues nearby. The mattress is not old, a hybrid pillow-top with rave reviews, but much like our space it is not for everyone. In the end, we wish that you would have reached out and given us the opportunity to ease your concerns on privacy or comfort, even if that meant a refund utilized towards another property. We hope that your romantic getaway was able to rekindle elsewhere. Safe travels.
Can’t say enough great things!!!
This cabin is a fantastic place to stay! It’s close enough to everything to be convenient but far enough away to be serene. The property owners were incredibly communicative. The room itself is cozy and the bathroom is beautiful. The hammock out front was a comfortable reading spot!! And the view of the lake is stunning! I highly recommend staying here. I know we will be back!
Great vacation spot
The bathroom was a serious highlight of this property. Everything was so pretty. We only wish we had more time to enjoy it
Quiet but close to all the fun.
Nice, quiet location but conveniently close to Richmond and other activities. Well described on the site and the host is quite accommodating and quick to respond to questions. The fire pit and the access to the water are a nice touch.
