Village house in Marseillan, Near Agde, Herault,-Roussillon. Panoramic Views Over Mediterranean lake
- english, french
We are retired hoteliers which gives us a very clear insight as to what our guests require. After major health problems we bought a large wooden boat and sailed across the channel into France in 2000. We then travelled through the French waterways to the sun, stopping off in Paris for 3 months. After a year or so we settled in Aigues Mortes on the Camargue for the winter months and travelled during the summer. In 2004 we found Marseillan and fell in love. We bought a derelict village house which we viewed 3 times before John entered the loft and poked his head through a skylight. He was stunned by the view of Sete across the etang. So we converted the loft into the terrace which with the quality of the rest of the house we think accounts for the number of repeat bookings we receive.

Wonderland house in a fabulous location
The description of the house was accurate, including telling about the spiral staircase! The house was very well equipped and had everything we needed. Excellent comfy beds, pillows and good quality bed linen. The roof terrace was the star, though; plenty space - and a fridge to keep water (and wine) up there too. Service by Tina was excellent; she came and me us off the bus when we arrived in Marseillan. Marseillan itself was lovely with a good choice of restaurants and cafes. Several bakeries nearby so easy to nip out in the morning for fresh croissants for the breakfasts on the roof terrace with great views. We have stayed in numerous holiday houses in France: this one tops the list!
Many thanks for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday.
A Perfect Stay
This is a great house- centrally situated in the village, yet less than a five minute stroll from the Port and Lagoon. The internal design of the house has been thoughtfully planned for holiday accommodation, with its roof terrace its crowning glory. The house is equipped with lots of information about the town and area, and the owners- a delightful couple- are on hand if needed for local knowledge, recommendations etc. We'll be back!
Great stay, great location
This is a wonderful, well-equipped property in the centre of Marseillan and a five minute walk from the Port and its restaurants. The terrace is the star of this house, with terrific views across the Etang to Sete - just magical. The owners are so helpful with advice about restaurants and places to see. Loved staying in the property and Marseillan is a really excellent holiday location from May to October. Can highly recommend it.
Yes the view from the terrace and the BBQ are very popular. Warm sunshine and cold wine in the midst of plants in full bloom. Two visits to us to date, we hope to see you again soon.
Wonderful house and location
Just spent two weeks in this property and had a fantastic holiday. The house is spacious, clean and very well equipped and the roof terrace is a lovely space to relax with beautiful views across the town and to the Etang. The location is perfect - the small town centre which has lovely shops, cafes and restuarants is just around the corner and the port is a few minutes walk away. Parking isn't a problem and there are lots of places to visit within easy driving distance. We particularly liked Sete and Pezenas and the beautiful beach at Le Castellas. We also loved 'Le Jardin du Naris' - a very quirky restaurant just around the corner from the house, which served delicious food at a very reasonable price. The owners are close by and very helpful and are happy to advise on where to go and what to do in the area. This is a wonderful place to stay - highly recommended.
June 2014 in Marseillan
Our recent stay in this lovely 3 story house was great. We had to change our plans at short notice because of the french rail strike and Tina and John could not have been more helpful.
The area is well worth exploring with lots of beautiful harbours, beaches, history and countryside. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance but the icing on the cake for us was to buy local fruit, veg, meat or fish and after a days sightseeing sit on the roof top terrace and enjoy the wonderful views with a glass in hand and a simple meal. Everything we needed was provided and and Tina and John were available if we had any queries. All in all a wonderful holiday, thank you. Sue and Brian
excellent accommodation and location
We stayed in this property for 12 nights. The house was clean and well looked after. It was extremely comfortable and perfectly located for the town and ideal for visiting other beautiful places. We managed to have days out to Beziers, Montipelleir, carcassonne on local public transport and had a fabulous bike ride to the plage.
The house is extremely well equipped. The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating.
I suggest one should ignore any negative comments in previous reviews.
There are 11 Km of beaches from Marseillan Plage to Sete awarded for their cleanliness. These are approximately 3km from Marseillan. Famous beaches to be found all round Cap D'Agde, including a Naturist beach. There is also a small specially built beach in Marseillan Ville, next to the fully equipped playground, ideal for small children to splash about and play in the sand.
The nearest airport (20mins) is Beziers (Vias) Ryanair flying from Luton and Bristol. The next nearest airport is Montpellier (45mins). You can also fly into Perpignan, Girona (Spain)2 hrs drive with good car hire facilities (fill up before crossing the Spanish border as its cheaper) Carcassone or Nimes. If driving from the UK we recomend The Millau bridge route and would advise you to consult ViaMichelin website with speed camera warnings.
Agde is a historic volcanic town with the river Herault running through it when it finally meets with the sea and is 7km from Marseillan. Other areas of interest are the quaint old villages of Meze and Bouzigue, famous for its oysters, which also border the Etang du Thau. Sete, on the other side of the Etang is home to the largest tuna fishing fleet on the mediterranean. The lovely ancient town of Pezenas is a 30 minute drive away.
Shops, restaurants, supermarkets are all within walking distance of the house as is the local market, held every Tuesday morning in the village. On-street parking is plentiful around the house. If you are interested in sailing, the sailing club inside the marina offers sailing lessons on the Etang to all ages. There is also a windsurfing school in the Port. Further along the etang is Glenans where you can book a weeks sailing course on the etang and in the Med.
