About this property

A beautiful stone cottage in the heart of the Suisse Normande, Normandy

A 2 bedroom, 4 person cosy country cottage for holiday let.

La Vieille Longère is an ancient Norman long-house, dating back to the early 1600's, situated in a tranquil hamlet of three stone- built houses.

The Gite forms part of the long-house and is the most recent addition, dating from about 1770 and was used as a 'Maison du Tisserand' where traditional lace was once made.

Located in the heart of what is known as La Suisse Normande, La Vieille Longère provides high quality accommodation from which to base your holiday in this beautiful part of France

Restored by the Owners in 2011, the Gite offers cosy and beautifully decorated accommodation for four people in two bedrooms, one a large double with exposed beams, the other a twin room, both sharing a bathroom equipped with a powerful shower.

The rooms are all centrally heated in colder weather but there is a stunning Esse Ironheart woodburning stove with an oven and hotplates for those who wish to use it.

Delightful cottage in beautiful countryside
We visited the cottage in June after several days in Paris. The change of pace and beautiful countryside was just what we needed. The cottage is delightful and has every comfort for a relaxing stay. There are a number of interesting places to visit, which are less than 90 minutes away. We also enjoyed the local nature trails that offer short or challenging hikes. Lesley and Nick were outstanding hosts. They offered practical information on where to shop and how to get around, suggestions of interesting places to visit and tidbits of local history. We had a wonderful week and it exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend a visit. Art and Barbara Dion, Ardmore, PA, USA

Beautiful Gîte, wonderful hosts!
This beautiful Gîte is situated right in the heart of the rolling Suisse Normand. Cozy cottage that's fully equipped with every pot, pan and utensil you could ever need. Comfortable beds, spacious private yard and the best walking trail I have ever been on. Nick and Leslie are delightful hosts. We had full privacy but they were always available when we had questions regarding local sites and fun historical facts regarding the area. I have an infant son and an energetic toddler which can sometimes make traveling difficult. But not so at La Vieille Longere. They have a beautifully spacious private backyard and even opened their own backyard up to us so that my son could see their chickens and rabbits. I can't say enough great things about our overall experience with not only the house but also the owners. This place is heaven! Try to avoid thoughts of renouncing all real responsibility and living here forever, because alas the real world waits. We had a wonderful time nick and Leslie and hope to be back soon!

The best kept secret in Suisse Normand
We spent 4 nights of our two-week trip to France at La Vieille Longere Gites, and my only regret is that we didn’t stay there longer. We would have happily spent our entire time there. There is so much to do in this beautiful area of Suisse Normand, if you choose to do so, but it is also the perfect place to just check out and really relax. La Vieille Longere Gites was a picture perfect spot for our family of four. Nick and Leslie have created a delightfully charming cottage that is clean and efficient. It is simply, yet lovingly appointed (i.e. clutter free!), and indeed cozy. We enjoyed spending time in their lovely back yard, where we dined on fresh greens from their garden (a huge bonus) and played badminton. We also enjoyed fresh eggs on our last morning – amazing! Nick and Leslie couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, not to mention, knowledgeable about the area. La Vieille Longere Gites is a real gem!

A Liitle Slice of Heaven
If you are looking for a taste of the French countryside..this is your place! This lovely recently renovated gite is charming, immaculate, and well stocked. We loved wandering through the nearby villages sampling bread, pastries, cheese, cider and wines. We ate lots of muscles and pomme frites. We kayaked the River Orne. Lesley and Nick were generous hosts asking sure we had everything we needed. Nick was very knowledgable about the Normandy historical sites and gave us lots of advice, directions and maps to make sure we made the most of our trips. This was a fabulous stop before we headed to the hustle and bustle of Paris. We highly recommend this gite. Mary and John USA
